No 2 (2017): The study of Security
From the Editor
“Modern man is exposed every day to various types of threats, which, depending on the circumstances and scale of the occurrence of a particular phenomenon, can assume the size of a natural disaster or catastrophe. The universality of the consequences of such events and situations makes them the focus of an important area of national security, which is undoubtedly universal security.” These are the words that begin the article by A. Urbanek titled “Tsunami – an environmental threat to universal security”, published in issue 2 of our journal “Security Studies”. In this issue you will also find topics in the field of personnel security. These issues are addressed in the articles by W. Czajkowski, J. Wąs-Gubala titled: “Personal security in a cultural perspective”, A. Rychły-Lipinska titled: “Model of individual security in today’s changing environment – preliminary considerations”, A. Kamińska-Nawrot titled: “Personal control – rationality of the legislator” and E. Matuska titled: “Psychosocial hazards associated with work”.
Issue two of the journal also contains topics in the field of international security in the broadest sense, and in particular security in Polish-Ukrainian relations. The article by M. Ziętarski titled: “MODUS VIVENDI strategy, as an element strengthening security in Polish-Ukrainian relations” presents the so-called “clash” of two approaches – supporting the rapprochement of Poland with Ukraine and the opposite – criticizing it. A. Stec, in his publication titled: “Poland and Ukraine against the background of changes in the geopolitical system,” describes the two countries, which are connected by over a thousand years of neighborhood based on similar experiences and history. The author, draws attention to the fact that both countries, by virtue of their geographical location, found themselves at the interface of the rivalry of the superpowers, i.e. the United States and China, and the policy pursued by the Russian Federation.
In this issue you will also find articles on information security. J. Sadowski in the article titled: “Cyber dimension of modern threats” draws attention to the fact that the vulnerability of countries to cyber threats is increasing, including threats of the terrorist type. The author, presenting examples, shows that the targets of attacks become elements of critical infrastructure, banking, weapons and state management systems. Information security is also addressed in publications by M. Terebecki and M. Olkiewicz titled: “The quality of information security determinant of the development of Internet banking” and M. Beskota titled: “Information security management”.
The second issue is enriched by publications by S. Kozdrowski entitled: “Methods and scope of data collection for police statistics in the Second Republic (1919-1934)” and I. Bieniecki titled: “The School of Border Protection Forces Ensigns in Kętrzyn and its role in preparing cadres for national defense in 1969-1991”.
The issue ends with a review of the book by J. and R. Pasztelanski entitled: “Policemen. At the Price of Life,” compiled by B. Sprengel and K. Ambrozy.
We cordially invite you, to reach for the second issue of our magazine, in which everyone interested in security issues will find an issue of interest to them.
